Rupandehi's Nishal wins first place in Ranimahal-Palpa Durbar Cycling

The Heritage to Heritage Uphill Cycling Challenge competition, which runs from Palpa's Ranimahal to Palpa Durbar Museum in Tansen, concluded on Saturday.

Those under 45 years and above 45 years were included in the competition. In the age group of 16 to 45 years of the competition, Nischal Nepali from Rupandehi Butwal came first.

The Nepali completed the 15-kilometer cycling journey in 1 hour 6 minutes 42 seconds, beating 12 competitors. Niraj Chaudhary from Rupandehi came second, completing the distance in 1 hour 7 minutes 27 seconds.

Dilip GC from Palpa Tansen Barudkhan came third, completing the distance in 1 hour 17 minutes 36 seconds, informed the Secretary of Palpa District Cycling Association, Vigyan Bajracharya. Cash prizes of Rs 20,000, Rs 10,000 and Rs 5,000 were given to the first, second and third place winners respectively.

Sete Lama Tamang from Palpa Tansen came first among those who completed the age group of 45 years. He completed the prescribed distance in 1 hour 19 minutes, beating 13 competitors. The second place went to Narayan Shrestha of Rupandehi-Butwal in 1 hour 21 minutes 26 seconds, while Krishna Bahadur Sinjali of Palpa completed the distance in 1 hour 25 minutes 56 seconds, said the association's vice-chairman Amankaji Shakya. The youngest participant in the competition was 16-year-old Niraj Chaudhary of Rupandehi and the oldest was 54-year-old Janaklal Rana.   

The first, second and third place winners were awarded cash prizes of 10,000, 5,000 and 3,000 respectively, said the chairman of the Palpa District Cycling Association, Rupesh Maharjan. The Palpa District Cycling Association was supported by the Tansen Tourism Committee (TACT) as well as various supporting organizations and firms to organize the competition. 

Tansen Mayor Santosh Lal Shrestha, association chairman Rupesh Maharjan, Tansen Municipality Chief Administrative Officer Chetnath Giri, Lumbini Sports Council member Raju Maharjan, Tansen 6 ward chairman Sagarman Maharjan and others distributed prizes to the winners of the competition. 

Mayor Shrestha said that such competitions organized by the Palpa District Cycling Association are important for the development of tourism in Tansen. ‘Palpa has a good climate, so such competitions can be organized at any time,’ he said, ‘The municipality is always ready to support competitions, competitions and programs that promote tourism here.’

Tansen Tourism Committee Coordinator and Ward Chairman Sagarman Maharjan said that since this is the first ‘uphill’ cycling competition organized in Palpa district, the competition to be held in the coming days is also important for breaking records.
