Army's Rawal wins Vyas Nagar Ultra Marathon title

Nepal Army runner Karan Rawal has won the title of the eighth Byas Nagar Ultra Marathon competition organized by Byas Municipality.

Rawal from Bajhang, who works in the army, won the title by covering the 44-kilometer distance from Manhukot in Byas to Pulimarang in 2 hours 48 minutes 27 seconds. Runners from the Nepali Army, Tilak Bahadur Sunuwar from Ramechhap, and Homlal Shrestha from Ramechhap, came second and third in the competition.

The marathon, which was attended by 42 runners, ran from Manungkot Siddhamarg to Alainche-Chapaghat-Ansan Chautari-Safa Sadak-Bhorletar Chowk-Baireni-Dumsi-Kalesti-Pathra-Satrasay-Baniya Dihi-Barlachi-Sotiveshi-Bagua Risti-Bahun Pokhara and ended at Pulimarang in Byas-8.

The municipality has awarded Rs 85,082 to the first place winner, Rs 65,082 to the second place winner, Rs 55,082 to the third place winner, and Rs 16,082 to the five consolation winners.

Byas Municipality has been organizing this competition with the aim of connecting the villages of the Magar and Gurung communities through sports tourism.

The 44-kilometer ultra marathon connecting Manungkot, where the Magar community lives, and Shahidbhumi Pulimrang, where the Gurung community lives, will cover six wards of the municipality, said Mayor Baikuntha Neupane.

Mayor Neupane said that the marathon competition, which is held every year, has helped in the development of the two tourist villages. He said, “This is not only a sport but also a campaign to promote tourism and develop the city.”
