The Nepal Shotokan Karate Association is set to hold the eighth National Open Karate Competition from Friday.
On the occasion of the 28th anniversary of the Shotokan Karate Association, a competition is being held in Madhyapur Thimi Municipality-2. The two-day competition will feature cadet, junior, senior and veteran categories in kata and kumute.
Nepal Shotokan Karate Association President Hem Kumar Shrestha informed at a press conference on Wednesday that 500 players will be selected from a total of 49 districts to compete. In the mini sub-junior (5-9 years), kumute will be competed in under 15 kg, under 20 kg, under 25 years, under 30 years, under 35 years and under 33 years. In the same age group, girls and boys will also compete in single kata.
Sub-junior (10-12 years) kata and kumite will also be played. In the same age group, boys will compete in open kumite and single kata. Cadet (13-15 years) kumute will be competed in 5 weight groups for girls and 8 weight groups for boys. Cadet will compete in single kata (girls and boys) and open kumite.
Junior kumite (16-18 years) will compete in 6 weight groups for men and 5 weight groups for women. The organizers have stated that there will be open kumite for men in the same age group.
Senior kumite (19-40 years) will compete in 6 weight groups for women and 7 weight groups for men. Veteran (above 40 years) will compete in single kata and kumite for women and men. The organizers have stated that women's team will compete in open and men's team kata. The top three teams in the competition will receive trophies. The best fighter will also be awarded a trophy.
