The 12th Excelsior Cup Games, organized by The Excelsior School, will be held from Wednesday.

Excelsior Principal Prashant Rajak informed at a press conference on Tuesday that 26 teams have been confirmed to participate in three categories of basketball and 56 teams in four categories of futsal.

In basketball, some 10-10 teams will participate in senior boys/girls and 6 teams in U-12 girls. In senior boys/girls, students studying up to grade 10 and in U-12, students studying up to grade 6 will be able to participate, informed Excelsior basketball coach Ashish Maharjan. Valley View in senior boys and Swarnim in senior girls are the champions of the last edition.

Principal Rajak said that the U-12 category has been added for the first time with the aim of widening the participation of girl players and encouraging them further.

In boys' futsal in the 'five-a-side' format, there will be competition in four different age groups. 8 teams will compete in U-9, 17 in U-11, 18 in U-13 and 13 in U-16. Rai School in U-9, Swastishree Gurukul in U-11, Excelsior in U-13 and Ribs in U-16 are the defending champions. Mahesh Malla Thakuri, the sports in-charge of Excelsior, the competition coordinator, said that the school is giving special emphasis on sports and extracurricular activities along with education to enhance the all-round capabilities of the students. According to the organizers, about 1.2 million rupees will be spent to run the competition. The competition games will be held at the organizer's premises in Swayambhu.
