The largest and most prestigious football tournament of the Sherpa community, the Khumbu Lhosar Cup-2026, is scheduled to be held from Magh 24.
This is the 15th edition of the competition, which is being organized on the occasion of Gyalbo Lhosar (New Year), the main festival of the Sherpa community.
The Khumbu Lhosar Cup, which has been organized continuously for the past 18 years, is being organized this time by the Mahendra Jyoti Ex-Student Forum. The competition will be held from Magh 24 to Falgun 3. The games will be held at the ANFA Football Ground in Satdobato, according to the organizers.
Giving information at a press conference held in Kathmandu on Tuesday, the chairman of the organizing organization, Fur Gyalje Sherpa, said that the Sherpa youth born in various villages of Khumbu Pasanglhamu rural municipality and currently residing in Kathmandu started this competition on the occasion of Lhosar in 2009 with the aim of making the most of their leisure time during the winter. According to him, the main objective of the competition is to increase interest in sports among the Sherpa youth, highlight their talents and strengthen unity among the community.
He said that the competition has been creating a competitive sports environment and encouraging football practice. 8 teams will participate in the competition.
