Indian player Kishan Kumar has won the first KMC 29 Ward President's Cup Open FIDE Rapid Rating Chess Championship.

In the competition held at the Anamagarsthiti 29 Ward Office in the capital on Saturday, India's 1909-rated Kishan won the title with 8 points and progressive 53.5 points.

Before the ninth round, 6 players had 7 points each. In the first board, FM Kshitij Bhandari got it against Mahendra Kumar Sambahamphe with 1831 points. In the second board, Rajan Subedi, who scored more progressive points, lost to Ashish Phuyal. In the third board, Kishan Kumar defeated Akash Subedi, who had more progressive points, to win the title. Kishan received 35,000. Nepal's top 2117-rated Kshitij Bhandari managed to win 30,000 by scoring 8 points and finishing second. Nepal's 2069-rated Ashish Phuyal came third by scoring 8 points. He received 25,000.

Syangja's unrated Akash Subedi, who scored 7 points and finishing fourth, managed to win 20,000. Rajan Subedi of Jhapa, rated 1973, who missed out on the title, came fifth, CM Naveen Tandukar of Kathmandu, rated 1898, came sixth, and CM Sushrut Dahal of Jhapa, rated 2002, came seventh. They each won 17,000.  

Sujan Kafle of Nawalpur, rated 1970, Prakash Chandra Nepal of Checkmate Chess Academy, rated 2024, and Rajan Puri of Lalitpur, rated 1911, remained in the top ten. They each received 15,000 prizes.

In the game, Mahendra Sambahamphe of Panchthar, rated 1931, Muhan Narsingh Shrestha of Dharan, rated 2057, Kabindra Siwakoti of Dolakha, rated 1832, Santosh Gautam of Chitwan, and Umesh Rai of Jhapa, rated 1860, managed to win 7,000 by staying in the top 15.

In the women's category, Jhapa's Kritisara Adhikari came first, Radhika Poudel second and Ujjiwini Kandel third, winning 7,000, 6,000 and 5,000 respectively.

Sanskar Gurung in the new entrant category, Ashok Mohan Shrestha in the senior category, U-10 Prasun Malla, U-12 Hardik Pant, U-14 Samriddha Shrestha, Sparsh Aryal in the under 1600 rating category, and Prateek Subedi in the under 1800 category were the best.

Kathmandu Metropolitan City Ward 29's Agam Samyukta came first, Dipon Mainani second and Nihana Shrestha third.  

Bagmati Province member Dipendra Shrestha, organizer Ward 29's chairman Kush Dhakal, coordinator Santosh Dhungel, director Indra Kumar Basnet and others presented awards.
