The Ncell 6th Tiger Cup National and International Invitational Open Club Championship Women's and Men's Volleyball Tournament, organized by Tiger Group of Pokhara Nepal, is starting from Friday at the Pokhara Stadium.
All preparations for the tournament, which will be held until 17th Magh, have been completed. The organizers have stated that a total of 11 teams, including 6 for men and 5 for women, will participate in the tournament. Since foreign teams will also participate in this sixth edition of the tournament, it is expected to become a special attraction for Nepali volleyball lovers.
At a press conference organized in Pokhara on Thursday, Narayan Prasad Sharma, chairman of the organizing organization Tiger Group of Pokhara Nepal, informed that all preparations for the tournament have been completed. ‘It is a pleasant aspect for Nepali volleyball lovers that foreign teams are participating in the sixth round of this edition,’ he said. ‘The national and international success achieved in the previous editions has given us more helping hands this year.’
Thailand Queens Thailand will compete in the women’s category and Maldives will compete in the men’s category. Nepal Police Club, Nepal APF Club, Tribhuvan Army Club and Tip Top New Diamond Youth Sports Club will participate in the women’s category.
The organizers have stated that the teams of Gandaki Province Volleyball Association, Nepal Police Club, Nepal APF Club, Tribhuvan Army Club and Parbat District Volleyball Association will compete in the men's category. The Parbat District Volleyball Association has participated in the competition with players from Tiptop Help Nepal.
The organizers have increased the prize money this time. The winning teams of both the women's and men's groups have been awarded the same amount of prize money. The first prize is Rs 666,666, the second prize is Rs 366,666 and the third prize is Rs 266,666. The best player will receive Rs 26,666 in cash and the category winners will receive Rs 11,666 each.
The main sponsor of the competition is Ncell, while Vatsalya and Dhara Pure Mustard Oil are the co-sponsors. The organizers have stated that they have the support of organizations and individuals including Kantipur Television HD and Sushree Media Pvt. Ltd., Extreme Energy Drink as special partners. The competition will be broadcast live on Kantipur Television.
To make the competition more attractive, a larger capacity parapet and stage have been constructed this time than last year. There will also be performances by renowned national artists.
For the convenience of the audience, an online seasonal ticket of Rs. 3,500 has been arranged. Tickets have been distributed in collaboration with Khalti IME. It is said that lucky viewers will be given a T-shirt from Xtape Fashion Nepal from half the ticket each day.
The organizer has stated that the player who succeeds in becoming Tiger Kelmi of the Match in each match will be given a souvenir from Kelmi Nepal.
It is estimated that the cost of organizing the competition will be around Rs. 18 million. ‘Due to the country’s complex economic situation, sponsors and financial support have not been forthcoming as expected,’ said Chairman Sharma, ‘but the campaign to raise funds is still ongoing.’ He said that the money saved from the competition will be invested in health, education, sports and social sectors.
Arrangements have been made for senior citizens and people with disabilities to watch the game for free. The organizers have also arranged a separate venue for them. A 107-member main organizing committee is working under the chairmanship of Chairman Sharma of the organizing organization to make the competition a success.
This year, Rajkumar Gurung is the coordinator of the competition and Dolraj Pokharel is the co-coordinator. The organizers have arranged for an LED screen digital board at the competition venue to make the competition digital technology-friendly.
There will be three matches on the first day of the competition. The first match on the men’s side will be between Maldives and Nepal Army Club. New Diamond and Nepal Army Club will face off on the women’s side. The opening match will be between the Gandaki Province Volleyball Association and the APF Club in the men's category.
