Bangladesh, Thailand and Netherlands win for second time in a row

Bangladesh, Thailand and Netherlands win for second time in a row

Bangladesh, Thailand and the Netherlands have recorded their second consecutive wins in the Women's Twenty20 World Cup Global Qualifiers, advancing them to the Super Sixes. The United States has secured its first win in the tournament.

Challengers Bangladesh defeated Papua New Guinea by 30 runs in the Group 'A' match. Bangladesh, who were invited to bat after losing the toss at the Tribhuvan University International Cricket Stadium in Kirtipur, scored 168 runs for the loss of 5 wickets in the stipulated 20 overs. Opener Dilara Akhtar scored 35 and Shorna Akhtar scored 37 runs. 

In reply, Papua New Guinea could only score 138 runs for the loss of 9 wickets. This is Papua New Guinea's second consecutive defeat to the United States in the first match of Bangladesh. The participating 10 teams have been divided into two groups and the top 3 teams from each group will advance to the Super Six.

In the second match held in Kirtipur, the Netherlands, which has played the Twenty20 World Cup four times, defeated Scotland by 7 runs. After Sterne Kallis scored an unbeaten 87 runs in 60 balls, which included 14 fours and 1 six, the Netherlands scored 157 runs for the loss of 6 wickets in the stipulated 20 overs. Despite captain Catherine Brice scoring 42 and Catherine Fraser scoring 41, Scotland could only manage 150 for the loss of 5 wickets in reply. 

Thailand won a thrilling 1-run victory over Zimbabwe at Mulpani Ground. With Zimbabwe needing 2 runs off the last ball, Nyasha Gwanjura was run out without adding a single run, and Thailand won. Nanapat Koncharoenkai hit 54 runs off 52 balls, hitting 6 fours, as Thailand scored 115 runs for the loss of 7 wickets in the stipulated overs in the Group 'B' match. Zimbabwe could only score 114 runs for the loss of 6 wickets in reply. This was the second consecutive defeat for Zimbabwe, who are hoping to play in the World Cup for the first time. 

The lowest-ranked USA defeated Namibia by 4 wickets in the second match at Mulpani. Namibia scored 144 runs for the loss of 6 wickets. Opener Yasmin Khan scored 74 runs off 47 balls. She hit 11 fours and 2 sixes to help Namibia post a good score. But Ella Claridge scored 70 runs off 51 balls, hitting 10 fours and 1 six, as the Americans reached the target with 4 balls to spare.
