Nepal is batting first against Thailand in the first match of the Women's Twenty20 World Cup Global Qualifiers.

Thailand had invited Nepal to bat at the Tribhuvan University Cricket International Stadium in Kirtipur after winning the toss on Sunday.

Nepal has lost opener Samjhana Khadka, who gave an aggressive start. She scored 26 runs in just 11 balls. Nepal is currently playing at 64 runs for the loss of one wicket at the end of 9 overs.

Samjhana Khadka, Bindu Rawal, Kajal Shrestha, Pooja Mahato, Rubina Chhetri, Kabita Joshi, Kabita Kunwar, Sita Rana Magar, Riya Sharma, Somu Bista are playing for Nepal, which is led by Indu Burma.

Nepal is hoping to win its first victory over Thailand since 2011. Last year, Nepal lost all three matches against Thailand in the triangular series. Thailand and Nepal were selected for this tournament by winning and running in the Asia qualifiers held in Bangkok in March last year.

Nepal, which is in Group ‘B’ of the 10-nation tournament, will play against Thailand, the Netherlands on January 22, Zimbabwe on January 24 and Scotland on January 26. This is the first time Nepal is playing against Zimbabwe and Scotland.

Group ‘A’ consists of Bangladesh, Ireland, Namibia, Papua New Guinea and the United States. The top three teams from both groups will advance to the Super Six. After facing each other in the Super Six, the top four teams will advance to the Twenty20 World Cup to be held in England and Wales in June-July.

In the warm-up match before this tournament, Nepal was defeated by Ireland by 99 runs and the United States by 6 wickets.
