The Himalayan Chess Academy is organizing the Himalayan Challengers U18 FIDE Rating Chess Tournament. 24 talented players selected for the rare classical chess tournament will compete for nine days starting Sunday.

Regarding the competition organized in collaboration with the Kathmandu District Chess Association, the academy's founder Monalisa Khambu says, "Rapid and blitz competitions that last up to 25 minutes are very common in Nepal. However, classical chess competitions, which are considered important for player production and level measurement, are rarely organized. Therefore, we want to upgrade young players by organizing classical competitions that are taken as real chess."

The competition will be held at the academy's own chess hall in Thapathali. The nine-day competition will consist of a total of nine rounds, one round each day based on the Swiss system. Each player will get 90 minutes and 30-minute increments. Players will be awarded Rs 1,000 for each win and Rs 400 for a draw.
