Prakrit Tamang, Soham Agarwal and Avani Rai have qualified for the Faldo Junior Tour Asia Grand Finals. They were selected as champions in their respective age groups.
Prakrit won the overall and boys 17-21 age groups. He shot an even-par 68 on Friday to become the champion with an overall score of 9-over 213. He defeated the leader of the first two days, Swapnil Bhattarai, by 2 strokes.
Prakrit, who was 3 strokes behind at the start of the third day, had already overtaken Swapnil by 1 stroke after playing the front nine at 1-under 33. Prakrit achieved eagle success on the first and fourth holes. He made bogeys on the third and sixth holes and a double bogey on the seventh hole. He saved a shot on the eighth hole. Swapnil, on the other hand, completed the front nine in 3-over 36.
Prakrit then played 1-over 35 on the back nine. He made birdies on the 15th hole but bogeyed the 14th and 17th holes. Swapnil played the back nine in 2 over 36. Swapnil, who played 5 over 73 in the day's match, finished second with an overall score of 11 over 215. Siddhant Sapkota was third. He played 10 over 78 and scored an overall score of 29 over 233.
In the boys' 12 to 16 age group, Soham Agarwal came first with an overall score of 17 over 221. Soham, who played 11 over 79 on Friday, defeated Ruben Thapa by 4 strokes. He played the front nine in 5 over 39 in the day's match, losing 1-1 shots on the second, third and fifth holes and making a double bogey on the ninth hole. After this, bogeys on the 10th to 13th holes and the 16th and 17th holes completed the back nine in 6 over 40.
Ruben, playing 6 over 74 today, finished second with an overall score of 21 over 225. Daniel Bania finished third with a total of 245 including 12 overs 80. Avani Rai of Nepal came first in the
girls category. She defeated Emily Lowe of Britain by 1 stroke. Avani scored 252 overall on Friday after playing 17 overs 85. Emily finished second with a total of 253 after playing 18 overs 86. Yasvi Shrestha came third with a total of 270. Avani and Emily were tied when the
started. Emily took a two-stroke lead by scoring 39 on the front nine. But she fell behind by 1 stroke after playing 13 overs 47 on the back nine and settled for second place. Avani scored 41 on the front nine and 44 on the back nine.
The selected Prakrit, Soham and Avani will represent Nepal in the Faldo Junior Tour Asia Grand Finals to be held in Vietnam in March. A total of 41 players participated in the three-day tournament organized by the Nepal Golf Association. Nepal Golf Association President Tashi Ghale, member Arsiya Banu, Bagmati Province Golf Association President Madan Rana, Royal Nepal Golf Club President Madhukar Yakthumba, Captain Mithun Rai and Treasurer Roshan Rai distributed prizes to the winning players.
