The 'Pawan Kumar Sethia Memorial Cricket Tournament' organized by the Rupandehi Cricket Association has started in Bhairahawa from Sunday. Under the tournament, there will be a competition between Tribhuvan Army Club 'A' and Rupandehi-11 in all three formats - Test, ODI and T20.

The Army has taken a 16-run lead against Rupandehi in the first day of the Test, which began on Sunday.

Rupandehi, who came into bat after losing the toss at the Siddhartha Cricket Ground in Bhairahawa, could only score 122 runs in 33 overs and 1 ball. For them, Akash Tripathi scored 37, Sandesh Thapa 20, Prajwal Thapa 19 and Mirnal Gurung 18 runs. In the bowling, Army's Anish Dhami took 5 wickets for 45 runs in 13 overs. Ghanshyam Pandey took 3 and Paras Singh Dhami took 2 wickets.

In the first innings, Army scored 138 runs for the loss of 9 wickets in 44 overs. Pradeep Pella scored 48 and Jitendra Singh Thakuri scored 43 runs for the Army. In the bowling, Rupandehi's Ajay Chauhan and Biprasan KC took 3-3 wickets, Suraj Khadka took 2 and Dev Khanal took 1 wicket. The rest of the Test match will be played on Monday.

Bhairahawa-based businessmen Harish and Sunil Sethia have sponsored the tournament in memory of their father, late Pawan Kumar. The winning team will receive a trophy, medal and certificate. The Man of the Series will receive Rs 5,000 and the Man of the Match of each match will receive Rs 2,000, said tournament coordinator Pratham Parajuli. According to him, the Test series will be held on Poush 20 and 21, the One-Day International on 23, 25 and 27, and the T-20 cricket series on 29, 30 and Magh 1.

Inaugurating the tournament, Lumbini Province Government's Youth and Sports Minister Santosh Kumar Pandey said that cricket is connected to the lives of the youth. He said that the provincial government is working systematically to make the dreams of the youth who see a future in cricket come true.

Rupandehi Cricket Association President Hari Bahadur Thapa said that a new and historic tournament has been started in Nepal in Bhairahawa. According to him, there will be 7 matches in three categories between Tribhuvan Army Club 'A' and Rupandehi-11.
