Amid the controversy and confusion that has erupted since the decision to shorten its term and go for 'early elections', the All Nepal Football Association (ANFA) organized a press conference on Saturday and said that their decision was correct.

During a program organized at the ANFA Complex in Satdobato, General Secretary Kiran Rai has claimed that the decision to hold the general election meeting on Magh 12 is in accordance with the statute and there is no need for any confusion about it.

The ANFA Working Committee meeting held last Wednesday had decided to hold the general election meeting in the last week of Magh. The four-year term of the working committee led by President Pankaj Bikram Nembang ends on Asad 4.

The ANFA Working Committee had already decided to hold an 'early election' in Jhapa on the basis of a majority vote. However, stakeholders in Nepali football have opposed this and have already said that they will go against it.

'We have made this decision based on the ANFA statute. Now what I would like to request everyone is that ANFA is now moving towards the elections, let's participate in it and practice democracy.' While presenting his claim at the press conference, General Secretary Rai presented a five-point argument. Accordingly, his first argument was that only the executive committee of ANFA has the right to interpret the statute of this organization, no one else.

The second argument was that the decision to go for 'early elections' was made on the basis of a majority, so it is legal and this is a natural process. The third argument was that no organization can go beyond the rules and extend its term, but some people think they can shorten their term. The current decision is ANFA's own, not someone else's. If someone forces them to make such a decision, it is wrong.

The fourth argument was that the district associations and clubs under ANFA are independent organizations, not part of ANFA. Therefore, there is no need for those organizations to hold elections during ANFA's 'early elections'. If any district associations and clubs also hold elections before the upcoming ANFA elections, there will be no objection to it. ANFA will consider this a natural process. Many stakeholders were saying that the district associations should also take a fresh 'mandate' before the ANFA elections.

The fifth and final argument was that if anyone goes to court against ANFA's decision or if Nepal's highest sports body decides against it, it will be contempt and interference according to ANFA's statute.

General Secretary Rai further added, 'The number of representatives who will come in the upcoming ANFA elections will be determined by the district association and club working committees. Therefore, those representatives can be considered new.'

He claimed that 'early elections' were the appropriate decision in the current situation since many have strongly criticized ANFA's last working committee and called on everyone to participate in it. General Secretary Rai said, 'If anyone feels that they can do good work for Nepali football by joining ANFA, then elections are the appropriate option. We have already informed FIFA, AFC, the Ministry of Youth and Sports, the National Sports Council and all other bodies about this.'
