Itahari's Model College has made a winning start to the third provincial-level inter-college T-20 cricket tournament that began in Sunsari on Saturday.
Namuna started the tournament organized by Itahari Adarsh Giants by defeating Bishwa Adarsh College by 102 runs. Namuna Blasters, the Koshi Premier League winner, batted first after losing the toss at the Janata Cricket Ground in Itahari-9. Namuna College scored a high total of 155 runs for the loss of 4 wickets in the match that was shortened to 15 overs due to bad weather. Captain Gaurav Katuwal scored the highest score of 40 runs for Namuna. Raju Bik scored 33, Aditya Lamichhane scored 23 and Bipul Shah scored 21 runs. Namuna achieved a comprehensive victory by losing all wickets in 7 overs after chasing a winning target of 156 runs. Namuna achieved a comprehensive victory after Prakash Karki bowled 3 overs and took 5 wickets for the cost of only 3 runs. Similarly, Sobit Mehta, who bowled 3 overs, took 3 wickets for 7 runs. Prakash Karki of Namuna was declared the Player of the Match. In the second match held on Saturday, Janata High School Itahari defeated Red Star College of Morang Pathari by 3 wickets.
The first match to be held on Sunday will be between Kasturi College of Itahari and Sushma Godavari College. The second match will be between Kantipur College of Biratnagar and Janata Multiple Campus Itahari, according to the organizers.
Teams from 12 different colleges of Jhapa, Morang and Sunsari of Koshi Province are participating in the competition that will last until December 26.
The teams have been divided into 4 groups. One team from each group will enter the semi-finals as the group winner. The competition is being conducted with the technical support of Sunsari District Cricket Association and the support of Cloud Education and Visa Services. Bhupal Luintel, president of the organizer, Itahari Adarsh Giants, informed that the tournament aims to highlight cricket talent among colleges in Koshi Province and also encourage the educational sector through sports.
