The 17th President's Running Shield Competition and the 7th Rambha Rural Municipality-level Running Shield Competition have begun in Rambha Rural Municipality of Palpa from Friday.
The three-day competition has started at the Aserdi Sports Ground in Hungi. 592 players from nine schools, including eight secondary schools and one Gurukulam, are participating in the Running Shield. 15 sports will be organized under the Running Shield. Rambha Rural Municipality Education Branch Chief Meena Acharya informed that gold, silver and bronze medals will be awarded to male and female students in the competition.
There will be a competition for 258 medals, including 74 gold, 74 silver and 110 bronze. Under the Running Shield, sports such as volleyball, kapardi, athletics (100, 200, 300, 400, 800, 1500 and 3000 meter races), high jump, long jump, triple jump, javelin throw, shot put and other sports will be played. Rural Municipality Chairman Bishnu Prasad Bhandari said that the Running Shield competition was organized with the enthusiastic participation of students of Rambha Rural Municipality.
Chairman Bhandari said that only if more and more students from the school can participate in extracurricular activities, they can reach the state and union through the Running Shield. Bir Bahadur Pun, Chief Administrative Officer of the rural municipality, said that just as students are eager to participate in such competitions, they should also work hard to bring medals from the state and union. Ward Chairman Ishwor Kafle said that the competition will help identify the talent of the students. He said that the competition will play an important role in instilling interest in sports from a young age and in becoming national players in the future.
