Mahakali Secondary School has come first in the sixth President's Running Shield competition at the Rainadevi Chhahara rural municipality level in Palpa.
The Running Shield competition held at the Kataujepani playground in Rainadevi Chhahara-5 on Friday saw the participation of 324 players from the rural municipality.
In the competition, which was attended by students from 14 schools, including 12 secondary schools and two basic schools, Mahakali Secondary Chhahara came first with 16 medals, including eight gold, three silver and five bronze. Ganga Secondary of Somadi came second with 13 medals, including five gold, three silver and five bronze. Similarly, Bhairav Navdeep Secondary came third with 14 medals, including four gold, six silver and four bronze, said Education Branch Chief Tej Kumal. Gauradevi Secondary Juthapauwa won three gold medals, while Guharthana and Satyawati Secondary won two gold medals each.
Rural Municipality Chairman Rukmangat Bhattarai, Vice Chairman Yubaraj Thapa, Chief Administrative Officer Vivek Ranpal, Social Development Committee Coordinator Pradeep Poudel, Education Branch Chief Tej Kumal and others presented awards, certificates and shields to the winning players in the competition that lasted for five days. The Running Shield competition featured competitions in sports such as kabaddi, javelin throw, athletics, volleyball, high jump, long jump, shot put and more.
Rural Municipality Chairman Rukmangat Bhattarai said that through sports, players not only elevate their own name but also that of the society and the country. ‘Sports help in keeping the human body disciplined and physically, mentally, socially and emotionally healthy,’ he said, ‘Student players who succeed in securing a place in the competition should also bring medals from the state and the federation.’
