In the 33rd edition of the ongoing Triveni Cup football tournament in Besisahar, Lamjung, ‘A’ Division club New Road Team (NRT) was eliminated after losing in a sudden death match on Thursday. Home team Langdidevi Nalma defeated NRT 9-8 in a sudden death tiebreaker to secure a place in the semi-finals.
After the scheduled 90 minutes ended in a goalless draw at the Sahaji Stadium, the game went to a tiebreaker. Langdidevi ended NRT's journey with a tough win in the sudden death of the tiebreaker. With this, NRT became the fifth club from Kathmandu to be eliminated from the competition. Earlier, Samaj Kalyan, Shree Bhagwati, Chitlang Football Club and Satdobato Youth Club have been eliminated from the competition.
Langdidevi captain Ashish Gurung, Randeep Poudel, Saroj Gurung, Roshan Pahari, Padam Bhattarai, Sujan Dangol, Pramijai Gachhadar, Bishan Gurung and Ganesh Himal scored goals in the tiebreaker. Aditya Shakya, however, could not score.
Roshan Khadka, Sanem Limbu, Vigyan Khadka, captain Kritisharatna Chunju, Pujan Hona, Vivek Gurung, Michael Garbuja and Junior scored goals for NRT. Chetan Tharu and Shota Atsomi's shots failed.
In the match, Langdidevi's Premijai Gachhadar was declared the 'Man of the Match' and received a prize of Rs 10,000. Now, Langdidevi will compete with the winner of Church Boys United and Laligurans Youth Club Bhujung for a place in the final. The match between these two teams will be held on Friday at 2 pm.
In the previous quarter-final, the defending champion APF Club defeated Thadarai Samaj 5-4 in a tiebreaker to secure a place in the semi-finals. The match ended in a 1-1 draw in the regular time. Although Yami gave Thadarai the lead in the fourth minute of the game, Pradeep Lama scored a goal in the fourth minute of the second half to bring APF level.
APF's Suman Shrestha, Dipesh Dhimal, Pradeep Lama, Manikumar Lama and Santosh Khatri scored goals in the tiebreaker. Ashish Chapagain, Shishir Lekhi, Karim and Devendra Tamang scored goals for Thadarai. Utsav Rai's shot failed.
APF's Angel Shrestha was declared 'Man of the Match' and received Rs 10,000. Now APF will play the winner of the match between hosts Triveni Youth Club and Lamjung Marsyangdi for a place in the final. The match between these two teams will be held on Friday at 11 am.
