The 10th Jhiltung Cross-Country Race is scheduled to be held on Magh 10, organized in Belkotgadhi Municipality of Nuwakot.
The competition, which will be organized by Belkotgadhi Municipality-5 and facilitated and technically supported by Athletics Parivar Nepal, will feature 10 events, the organizers informed at a press conference held on Wednesday.
Open men/women, men veterans and local men will compete over a distance of 13.4 kilometers. The first placer will receive a prize of 25,000, the second placer 15,000 and the third placer 10,000 rupees.
Local U-18 and U-16 boys/girls and mother/father groups will also be included in the competition. The top three finishers in each 4.5-kilometer distance event will receive prizes of 18,000, 12,000 and 8,000 rupees respectively. A ‘walk and talk’ category has also been included.
At the press conference, Belkotgadhi Municipality Mayor Jagat Bahadur Gurung and Deputy Mayor Shiva Prasad Dahal discussed plans to further broaden the scope of the race from the upcoming edition.
Ward 5 Chairman Madan Bhujel said that the dignity of the race has increased further due to the participation of famous athletes. Mohan Nepal, the founder of the race, shed light on the race, saying that there was special support from the locals to make the race a success. The race was started on the initiative of the founder Nepal.
Rajan Khatri, President and Race Director of Athletics Parivar Nepal, said that Jhiltung is one of the toughest races in Nepal. He said that around 500 athletes are expected to participate in the race.
The race will start from Kolputar, go around various parts and end back in Kolputar.
