Defending amateur champion Rahul Bishwakarma has taken a five-stroke lead in the Surya Nepal Central Open Golf, which began on Monday.

At the Gokarna Golf Club, Rahul edged out professional golfer Jayaram Shrestha with a best score of 6-under 66. Jayaram is in second place with a score of 1-under 71. Another amateur, Sam Doblard, is in third place with an even-par 72. This is the first tournament of the Surya Nepal Golf Tour 2025-26 season.

Bhuvan Kumar Rokka, Sabin Sapkota, Bhuvan Nagarkoti, Dinesh Prajapati, Pradeep Kumar Lama and amateur Phunso Norbu Lama are tied for fourth place with a score of 1-over 73. Tasi Ghale, Balabhadra Rai, Toran Bikram Shahi, Deepak Magar, amateur Kavi Thapa are tied for tenth place with a score of 2-over 74. Tasi got a hole-in-one success on the fifth hole.

While drawing the best score card of the day, Rahul finished both the front and back nine at 3-under 33. He birdied the second, third, fifth and seventh holes but missed a shot on the eighth. He then birdied the 10th, 12th and 15th holes.

Jayaram started the day with a bogey. He birdied the seventh and eighth holes to finish the front nine at 1-under 35. He then made a double bogey on the 14th hole and a bogey on the 16th hole. But he saved one shot each on the 11th, 17th and 18th holes to finish the back nine at even-par 36. Amateur Sam birdied the third and ninth holes but faced a bogey on the seventh hole and a double bogey on the fourth hole. He played the front nine at 1-over 37. A bogey on the 17th hole finished the back nine at 1-under 35.

Nepal's number one professional golfer Neeraj Tamang, on the other hand, had a poor performance of 5-over 77. Pashupati Sharma retired after the eighth hole due to health reasons.

The top 18 professional and amateur players will make the cut at the end of the second day. They will compete for the title over the last two days. 37 professional and 26 amateur players are participating in the 72-hole competition. The total prize money of the tournament is 1 million 50 thousand, with the winner winning 1 lakh 70 thousand.
