Kamal Thapa, who is also a leader of the RPP, has won a double title in the 22nd Machhapuchhre Cup Pokhara Open and Veterans International Tennis Tournament underway in Pokhara. He won the singles and doubles titles in the over-65 age group at the Pokhara Rangsala Tennis Complex on Monday.

He defeated Pokhara's Padam Gurung in singles 4-2 and 4-0 sets. In doubles, he partnered Chhyamba Dhundup and defeated Dhruv Gurung and Bidur Bista in doubles 4-1 and 4-1 sets to win the title.

The men's doubles title in the open category under the tournament organized by the Kaski District Tennis Association was won by the pair of Pradeep Khadka and Ayushman Hazur Ghale. In the final match held on Monday, the pair defeated the pair of Nehal Jung Bahadur Thapa and Rajbir Pradhan in sets 6-0, 6-1 sets to win the title.

The pair of Jitendra Pariyar and Kumar Adhikari won the title in the men's doubles over 35 years of age. Jitendra's pair defended the title by defeating the pair of Santosh Khatri and Bhishma Jung Gurung in sets 6-4 and 6-2 sets in the final. The pair of Dev Chhetri and Himal Shah came first in the men's doubles over 45 years of age. The pair won the doubles title over Rohit Sunuwar and Jolly Targen 6-2, 3-6 and 10-5 in supertime in the final.

The over-55 doubles title was won by Uttam Kumar Lama and Jitendra Pradhan. The pair defended their title by defeating Bimal Kumar Gurung and Himal Shah 4-6, 7-6 and 11-9 in the competitive final. In the singles, Pradeep Khadka defeated Pritam Pariyar, Ayushman Hazur Ghale defeated Nehal Jung Bahadur Thapa, Karan Bahadur Thapa defeated Darshil Shrestha and Rajbir Pradhan defeated Ugen Sherpa to secure a place in the last four.

In the over-35 men's singles, Jitendra Pariyar defeated Anil Shahi, Bhishma Jung Gurung defeated Som Rana, Prem Norgu defeated Bikash Khadka and Santosh Khatri defeated Navin Shrestha to secure a place in the semifinals, informed tournament director Kumar Adhikari.
