NRT and Lamjung Marsyangdi have entered the quarterfinals of the 33rd edition of the Triveni Cup nationwide football tournament underway in Lamjung.
In the first match held at the Sahaji Sports Ground in Besisahar on Sunday, NRT defeated Bhanu United (Chakrapath, Kathmandu) 1-0 to book their place in the last eight.
Chetan Chaudhary was the decisive player in NRT's victory. The goal he scored in the 11th minute of the first half proved to be the decisive one. Chetan, who performed brilliantly, was declared the man of the match and received Rs 10,000.
In the second match, the home team Lamjung Marsyangdi defeated Suryapur Chitwan 2-0 to secure a place in the quarterfinals. Samir Tamang scored a goal in the injury time of the first half, giving Lamjung Marsyangdi the lead.
Aaron Thapa added another goal in the 20th minute of the second half. Suryapur Chitwan remained goalless. Samir Tamang was declared the man of the match in that match and received Rs 10,000.
The first match of the competition on Monday will be between Satdobato Football Club and Laligurans Youth Club, Bhujung at 11 am. The second match will be between Thadarai Samaj and Samaj Kalyan Kathmandu at 2 pm, informed the chairman of the organizer Triveni Youth Club, Tekjung Gurung.
The winner of the competition will receive a trophy, medal and certificate along with 1.2 million rupees. The runner-up will be given 600,000 rupees, a medal and a certificate. The organizers have stated that the prize of 200,000 rupees each, which was given to the two teams that lost in the semi-finals last year, has been removed from this year.
