The new season of Surya Nepal Golf Tour 2025-26, organized by the Nepal Professional Golfers Association (NPGA), is starting. There will be a total of 8 tournaments in this season.

NPGA General Secretary Deepak Acharya informed at a press conference held on Saturday that there will be a total of 8 million 10 thousand in cash prize money for the eight tournaments. Last season, the prize money was 6.7 million 32 thousand. Acharya said that the increase has been made.

The new season will start with the Surya Nepal Central Open Golf. This tournament will start at the Gokarna Golf Club from Monday. Nepal's top professional and amateur golfers will compete in the four-day tournament.

The cut will be made on the second day, i.e. after 36 holes of play, in the 72-hole competition. At the end of 36 holes, the top 18 pros and amateurs will make the cut. They will compete for the title in the last two days. This is the first time that the top 18 will make the cut. Earlier, those who came up to 21st place made the cut.

The total prize money for the Central Open is 1 million 50 thousand. The winner will receive 1 lakh 70 thousand, the runner-up 1 lakh 25 thousand, the third place 1 lakh, the fourth place 82 thousand and the fifth place player will receive 72 thousand rupees. The top 18 players who make the cut will receive cash prizes.

This season's number one golfer Neeraj Tamang, defending champion amateur golfer Rahul Bishwakarma, veteran Bhuwan Nagarkoti, Toran Bikram Shahi, Dinesh Prajapati, Sanjay Lama and Ravi Khadka will be the main contenders. 

This is the 19th edition of the Surya Nepal Golf Tour, which started in 2008-09. NPGA President Rabindra Man Shrestha, in a statement, expressed his excitement for the new season and said that the Surya Nepal Golf Tour has entered its 19th year and has played a significant role in the development of golf in Nepal. Shrestha said that the tour has inspired professional and amateur players and provided a platform for new talents to move forward. 

The eight tournaments under the Surya Nepal Golf Tour will be held at five different golf courses. 

Along with this Central Open, the Surya Nepal Eastern Open will be held at Dharan Golf Club from January 14 to 17. The NPGA Tour Championship will be held at the newly built Army Golf Course in Bardibas. This is the first time that any tournament of the tour will be held at this course. It is scheduled to be held from January 27 to 29, the NPGA has said.

The Surya Nepal Kathmandu Open will be held at the Royal Nepal Golf Club from February 10 to 13, while the Western Open is scheduled to be held at the Himalayan Golf Club in Pokhara from March 4 to 7. The Surya Nepal NPGA Match Play will also be held at the Royal Nepal Golf Club. This tournament, which will be based on knockouts, will be different from the other seven tournaments. The best 16 players in the order of merit will be able to play in it. It will be held from April 7 to 9.

The Surya Nepal Challenge is scheduled to be held from May 5 to 8 at the Royal Nepal Golf Club and the final tournament of the season, the Surya Nepal Premier Golf Championship, is scheduled to be held at the Gokarna Forest Golf Resort from June 2 to 6. This will be the tournament with the highest cash prize of the season. Its total prize money will be 18 lakhs, informed General Secretary Acharya.
