What you should know

Banepa Football Academy is going to conduct a winter camp for children who want to learn football. It was informed at a press conference held on Saturday that the camp will be conducted for 15 days from December 19, during the winter vacation in schools.

Academy President Niroj Shakya said that the camp is being run with the aim of preventing students from getting addicted to sports during the holidays and increasing their interest in the game. Children between the ages of 8 and 16 will be able to participate in the camp. A fee of Rs 1,500 has been set to participate in the camp. At the press conference, club president Shakya said that the academy was established with the aim of producing national-level football players. The academy was established 2 years ago by the Mount Everest Football Club and Banepa Football Club in the district. 60 children have been training at the academy daily. According to Manish Bhochhibhoya, vice-president of the academy, the players who have trained at the academy, including the participating Mount Everest Football Club, were successful in coming first in the 2081 district league and Banepa Football Club was successful in coming second. Similarly, in 2080 BS, 3 players were selected from the academy in the under-14 player selection, while 4 players were successful in reaching the central selection in the under-16 selection of 2081 BS.

At the press conference, ANFA central member Bikash Narayan Shrestha, who is also the president of the Kavre District Football Association, said that the District Football Association and ANFA have been providing continuous technical support to the academy.  Stating that such activities will help produce national-level players, he said that if players who have participated in the national team from Kavre district are also present in the training, it will encourage new players.

Binod Neupane, president of the Federation of Journalists, Kavre, said that even though football is popular in the district, it is a positive step for the academy to conduct such camps at a time when players are not receiving adequate training.
