Mahendra Namuna Secondary School, located in Tamghas, the district headquarters, has won the title of the sixth Fortin Star Cup held in Gulmi. Mahendra Namuna Secondary School won the title by defeating Palukha Secondary School, located in ISMA Rural Municipality-2, 2-0 in the final match of the competition held on Saturday.
Tamghas-based Fortin Star Youth Club organized a secondary school level football tournament at the Jaidhunga BP Park playground in Jharna, ISMA Rural Municipality-1.
In the final match on Saturday, Mahendra Mavi put Palukha Mavi under pressure. However, no goals were scored in the first half. In the second half, Ayush Gharti Magar of Mahendra Mavi scored a goal in the 60th minute of the game, giving the team the lead. Then, Amos Nepali of Mahendra Mavi also scored a goal. Palukha Mavi could not regain its rhythm in the 70-minute match. Mahendra Mavi defeated Upper Tamghas Mavi and Palukha Mavi in the semi-finals to make it to the finals.
Narayan Acharya, president of Fortin Star Youth Club, said that 14 schools participated in the tournament. According to him, the winner of the tournament, Mahendra Namuna Mavi, received the title along with a cash prize of 35 thousand rupees, a trophy, a medal and a certificate. Similarly, the runner-up Palukha Mavi has received 25 thousand rupees, a trophy, a medal and a certificate. It started last Tuesday.
ISMA Rural Municipality Chairman Bhagat Singh Khadka thanked Fortin Star Youth Club Tamghas for successfully holding the competition at the recently completed Jaidhunga BP Park playground. He said that the recent sports competitions held at this playground have added to the morale.
