The 22nd edition of the Machhapuchhre Pokhara Open and Veterans National Tennis Tournament has begun in Pokhara from Friday.
On the opening day of the tournament, in the ‘Men’s Singles’ category, Karan Bahadur Thapa defeated Shashwat Bajracharya, Sandeep BK defeated Prafulla Shrestha, Jeyun Kim defeated Pema Norbu, Pritam Pariyar defeated Umid Sherpa, Surendra BK defeated Angel Thing and Vivek Magar defeated Devashish. Similarly, Aarav Samrat Hada defeated Suman Tharu, Darshil Shrestha defeated Nischal Kayastha, Ugen Sherpa defeated Manoj Maharjan, Prakash Gurung defeated Suman Tripathi and Somaj Shrestha defeated Pasang Sherpa.
In the men’s singles category for over 45 years, Sharan Gurung defeated Balram Sapkota, Neeraj Thapa defeated Narayan Pahari, Bhishmaraj Poudel defeated Sunil Shrestha and Sejar Gurung defeated Bikash Gurung. In the doubles of the same age group, the pair of Gopi Bahadur Bhattarai and Dharam Singh Lamichhane defeated the pair of KV Tamang and Biren Lama.
In the singles category over 55 years, Jitendra Pradhan defeated Hemchandra Gurung, Karimulla Muslim defeated Nawang Lama, and Jitendra Khadka defeated Surendra Makaju. In the doubles category over 55 years, the pair of Anu John and Manu Tripathi defeated the pair of Prakash Basnet and Manoj Nepal, and the pair of Dev Chhetri and Himal Shah defeated the pair of Yagya Bahadur Bhandari and Amrit Gurung to enter the second round.
