The organizers have made a winning start to the second DVM Cup inter-school cricket tournament, which began in Sunsari with the aim of producing players from the school level.

The hosts defeated Tenderfit English School by 8 wickets in the inaugural match held on Wednesday at the Nepal DVM Global School pitch in Itahari-9. After winning the toss, Tenderfit, who batted first, scored 71 runs losing all their wickets in the stipulated 10 overs. In reply, DVM, who batted first, achieved the winning target by losing 2 wickets in 9.5 balls.

In the second match held on Wednesday itself, another team of the hosts, DVM Sagarmatha, defeated Itahari Model School by 34 runs. After winning the toss, DVM Sagarmatha, who batted first, scored a high total of 125 runs losing 6 wickets in the stipulated 10 overs. In reply, Itahari Model, chasing a winning target of 126 runs, could only score 93 runs losing 5 wickets in the stipulated overs. The first match on Thursday will be between Unique Academy and Mount Makalu Residential Secondary School, while the second match will be between Sushma Secondary School and Bright Future Secondary School, the organizers have said.

19 different schools from Sunsari and Morang are participating in the competition that will run until Poush 16. The winner of the competition, which was started for the first time in Sunsari at the school level using leather balls, will receive a cash prize of Rs 25,000 and the runner-up will receive a prize of Rs 15,000. The best player of the competition will receive Rs 5,000 and the best in the category will receive Rs 2,500, the organizers have said. The 19 teams participating in the competition have been divided into 6 groups. The 8 teams from the group that perform best in the league stage will enter the second stage.

The competition will be held on a knockout basis from the second stage, informed Principal Dr. Venu Prasad Sitaula. The total cost of completing the competition is estimated to be Rs 500,000, informed school principal Narayan Subedi. According to the organizers, the main objective of the competition is to develop a sense of healthy competition among students, as well as enhance sports discipline, cooperation, and self-esteem.

The organizers hope that through sports, students will learn to accept victory and defeat equally, follow the rules, and understand the importance of continuous effort and perseverance. The organizers are confident that this competition will provide talented students with an opportunity to showcase their cricket skills and open the door to future district, provincial, and national level competitions.
