The host team Nepal Police School has won the first match of the seventh edition of the DIGP Cup football tournament. The Police School made a happy start to the tournament by defeating Bharol Bal Mandir School by a margin of 5-0 in the inaugural match held on Wednesday at the football ground of the Nepal Police Provincial Office, Dharan.
In the 16th minute of the game, Samir Rai of Police scored a goal to give the team the lead. Then, in the 24th minute, Ujwal Thapa scored the second goal to double the lead. Police, which maintained pressure in the first half, presented an aggressive game in the second half as well.
Samir Rai completed his personal hat-trick by scoring two more goals in the 8th and 11th minutes of the second half. Nischal Khadka secured the victory for Police by scoring the fifth goal in the 32nd minute of the game.
Samir Rai, who performed brilliantly by scoring three goals in the game, was declared the 'Man of the Match'. He received a cash prize of Rs 1,005 along with a medal and a certificate. The DIGP Cup football competition started in 2058 BS and ended in 2063 BS. The Dharan-based Depot School has set a record for the most successful team, winning the title four times, up until the sixth edition of this competition, which has resumed after a long hiatus.
