The third edition of the Koshi Pride League (KPL) is scheduled to be held in Sunsari from Falgun 9 to 21.
KPL, which is being organized by Koshi Pride Pvt. Ltd., has been approved by the Cricket Association of Nepal (CAN), while the Koshi Province Cricket Association will provide technical support.
KPL Director Afzal Hussain said that Namuna Blasters, Itahari Adarsh Giants, Birtamod Hits, Purveli Super Kings, Everest Thunders, BN Koshi Arnas and Gorkha Avengers will participate in the competition. The promoters of the participating teams were also announced.
Namuna Blasters are Dharma Neupane, Itahari Adarsh Giants are Kalpit Dhakal, Birtamod Hits are Anurag Pramanik and Jeevan Kumar Yadav are the promoters and representatives, Purveli Super Kings are Sanjok Rana, Mahendra Mainali, Santosh Timalsina, Rabin Bista and Sandesh Sigdel. Similarly, Everest Thunders is promoted by Akash Khadka, BN Koshi Arnas by Mohammad Seraj Ansari, and Gorkha Avengers are promoted by Vijay Khadka, Pujanbabu Bhattarai, Kiran Khadka, Amardeep Sapkota, and Raghunath Sapkota.
The participating team will have to field 18 players, including one marquee, one iconic, three draftees (who will be from the national team), three players from Category 'A', two from Category 'B', and one from Category 'C'. KPL Director Afzal Hussain hoped that the development and grassroots program of Koshi Province cricket will be more effective with the KPL organization.
The organizer has said that the auction date will be announced soon. The open player registration process for the auction has already started. In the auction, the price of Category 'A' is kept between 45 and 65 thousand, Category 'B' between 25 and 45 thousand, and Category 'C' between 5 thousand and 25 thousand.
CAN Secretary Paras Khadka said in a press conference organized on Sunday that such a competition is necessary to make domestic cricket professional . Coordinator Govinda Poudel believed that this competition is not only a place to identify young talent and that it will help in the development of Nepali cricket . Sunsari District Cricket Association President and Technical Head Chetnath Poudel said that Koshi has been organizing the competition even when CAN was suspended and this league will help in increasing the capacity of players . Jhapa District Cricket Association President Prabin Thapa said that many local leagues are starting after the discussion of NPL . He said that this competition will be a means for players who could not play in the NPL to show their capabilities
