The 15th International Open Friendship Taekwondo Championship (IOFTC) was officially inaugurated on Friday. The three-day competition began on Thursday. On the first day, 22 gold medals were decided in board breaking.

The championship was inaugurated by Minister for Youth and Sports Bablu Gupta. Under the competition being held at the National Sports Council (NSC) Covered Hall organized by IOFTC Nepal, various events were competed in Gyorogi and Poomsae on Friday. The competition will conclude on Saturday.

International coordinator and referee of the competition Ashok Khadka said that all Poomsae events were completed on Friday. According to him, all competitions under the age of 14 in Gyorogi have also been completed.

Boxer honored

Organizer IOFTC Nepal honored boxer Chandra Bahadur Thapa at the inauguration. Chandra Bahadur was honored with 25,000.

Boxer Thapa won a bronze medal in the 54 kg weight category at the AIBA Men's World Boxing Championship held in Dubai, United Arab Emirates last week. Chandra is the first Nepali to win a medal at the World Boxing Championship.

Taekwondo and sports personnel were honored on the occasion of the inauguration. IOFTC Nepal honored 26 people.
