England's batting once again proved to be weak in the face of Australia's effective bowling attack, as the visitors look set to lose the third Test. With this, England's Ashes series dream is in jeopardy. A miracle performance will be needed from England if they are to keep the series alive.

England finished the second day of the third Test at 213 for three. The team is still 158 runs behind the first innings. Australia had scored 371 in their first innings in 40 degree Celsius heat. They started from 326 for eight and added 45 runs. England's Ben Stokes is batting on 45 and Jofra Archer on 30. The England captain is putting in some solid performances after facing 151 balls. "Stokes is batting as hard as he can," said England's batting coach Marcus Trescothick. "Physically, he's struggling." Apart from Stokes, Harry Brooks scored 45. Once again, England's opening batting pair failed. Jack Crawley made 9 and Ben Duckett made 29. Ollie Pope was dismissed soon after for 3. Joe Root also contributed only 19 runs. Jamie Smith scored 22 and Will Jacks scored 6 runs.

Brendan Kearse was also out for naught. Among the Australian bowlers, Pat Cummins took 3 wickets for 54 runs. Scott Boland and Nathan Lyon took 2 wickets each. Cameron Green also took one wicket. Before that, Alex Carey scored 106 runs for Australia. Usman Khawaja contributed 82 runs.

Australia is leading 2-0 in the five-Test series. If this Test results end in a draw or a win, Australia will win the series. Australia had won the two Tests in Perth and Brisbane by the same margin of 8 wickets. Now on the third day, Australia will be in the policy of ending England's first innings as soon as possible.

Record partnership

New Zealand - Taking advantage of the West Indies' poor bowling, New Zealand put on a record-breaking batting performance in the third and final Test on Thursday. Devon Conway and Tom Latham put on a 323-run partnership for the first wicket. Their performance helped New Zealand reach 334 for one wicket at the end of the first day's play.

This is the eighth time that a 300-run partnership has been achieved in Test cricket for New Zealand. Captain Latham was the only batsman to be dismissed, scoring 137 runs. He hit 15 fours and a six. The match was 86.4 overs long when Latham was dismissed. He hit 15 fours and a six in 246 balls.

Conway is playing on 178 runs. He has faced 279 balls and has hit 25 fours. Jacob Duffy is playing on 9 runs. Kemar Roach got that wicket for West Indies. New Zealand leads the three-Test series 1-0. After the first Test in Christchurch ended in a draw, New Zealand won the second Test in Wellington.
