To promote and develop the game of volleyball, a Koshi Province Municipality-level open men's volleyball tournament is to be held in Itahari. The organizer, Itahari Volleyball Club, organized a press conference on Thursday and informed that the tournament will start from Magh 7.

Club Secretary Prakash Gautam informed that teams from 10 different municipalities of Koshi Province will compete in the three-day competition. Secretary Gautam said that the winning team in the competition will receive a cash prize of Rs 100,000 and the runner-up will receive a prize of Rs 50,000. The organizers have stated that the teams that lost in the semi-finals will also be given a consolation prize of Rs 10,000 each.

It has been arranged that the team participating in the competition can include a maximum of three national players. All three players must be from Koshi Province, informed the club's president Gopal Shrestha.

Itahari region was once known as a fertile ground for volleyball and Itahari has produced many players who have participated in district-level to national and international competitions, the club said. Major national-level volleyball competitions were successfully held in 2047 BS, 2048 BS, 2073 BS and 2081 BS. Noting that famous national players of that time participated in those competitions, the club stated that the competition is being organized keeping in mind the situation where sports activities here have gradually weakened in recent years.

Itahari Volleyball Club was established with the slogan 'Sports for a Healthy Society' with the aim of attracting the youth towards sports, developing discipline and keeping them away from addictions and wrong activities. Chairman Shrestha informed that a competition is being organized with the participation of prestigious teams from various municipalities of Koshi Province as the first phase of the program.

It is estimated that the cost of conducting the competition at the volleyball court located in the Itahari Stadium premises will be Rs. 600,000.
