The host, BIA Institute, has won the first ever wheelchair rugby friendly match in Nepal.
BIA defeated Spinal Injury Association Nepal by a score of 5-3 in the match held at Downtown in Bouddha on Thursday. The friendly match, organized in collaboration with Gokarneshwor Municipality-5, Nepal Rugby Association and Nepal Spinal Cord Injury Association, is the first official wheelchair rugby match in Nepal.
Nepal Rugby Association President Deepak Devkota, Gokarneshwor-5 Ward President Narayan Bahadur Subedi, Political Officer of the US Embassy Blake Giragos, BIA Executive Director Gokarna Dhungana and Nepal Spinal Injury Rehabilitation Dr. Raju Dhakal among others distributed awards to the winning players.
BIA's Prakash Basnet was named the best player, while Spinal Injury Association's Ananta Rai was named the 'emerging player'. Both players received air cushions as awards.
BIA captain Dilip Sapkota said that the wheelchair rugby match was organized after a long effort.
He said that the main objective of this game is to connect the completely disabled and handicapped people with society, bring them out of the house and make them inclusive through sports.
