New Horizons wins inter-school cricket title

New Horizon School, Butwal, Rupandehi, has won the title of the Late Sher Bahadur Century Memorial Inter-School T-20 Cricket Tournament held in Bhairahawa. Horizon defeated Rupandehi Leelaram Neupane Secondary School, Bhairahawa by 5 runs in the final held at the Siddhartha Cricket Ground here on Tuesday.

New Horizon, who won the toss and elected to bat, scored 99 runs for the loss of 8 wickets. Prince Pal and Arush Adhikari scored 17 runs for them. In bowling, Leelaram's Vicky Mallah took 3, Premsagar Yadav took 2 and Krishnamohan Kurmi and Ayan Khan took 1 wicket each.

Leelaram, who batted in reply, scored 94 runs in 17 overs and was all out after scoring 2 balls. Horizon's Amrit Aryal took 4, Region Budhathoki took 3, Shreyans Gyawali took 2 and Ashram Ali took 1 wicket.

Leelaram's Ayan Khan scored 34, Ajay Kewat 21 and Sunil Yadav 16 runs, but it was not enough for the victory. Amrit Aryal was awarded Rs 500 as the player of the final.

Horizon won Rs 50,000 as the first prize, while runner-up Leelaram won Rs 25,000, a trophy, medal and certificate. Prince Paul of New Horizon was named Man of the Series and received Rs 10,000. Similarly, Samrat Baral of Amarjyoti School was the best bowler and Vasudev Yadav of Lumbini Shiksha Niketan was the best batter. They each received Rs 5,000. 

Horizon GBS was awarded the best disciplined team. 30 schools from Rupandehi participated in the competition sponsored by Parbat Jewelers, Bhairahawa. The winning and runner-up teams were awarded by Siddharthnagar Municipality Mayor Istiyaq Ahmed Khan, Rupandehi Cricket Association President Hari Bahadur Thapa, Founding President Prem Kumar Century, Former President Prashant Bikram Malla, Siddharthnagar Chief Administrative Officer Janak Thapa, Program Coordinator Uday Kumar Mallik, and others.
