Newstar Football Club Jhapa secured a meeting with Birtamod by defeating Manglung Sporting Club Tehrathum 1-0 on Sunday in the second semi-final of the Sirijanga Gold Cup held at Tellok, the center of Sirijanga Rural Municipality. Foreign player Richard Wilson scored the decisive goal for Dharan.
The goal scored in the 66th minute of the match was enough to give the team the victory. He advanced the ball alone from near the middle of the field and scored from near the D-box.
Richard was also the man of the match and received a cash prize of Rs 2,500. Marik is also the runner-up last year.
Newstar was eliminated in the quarterfinals last year. The winner of the competition will receive a three-year running trophy with a statue of Sirijanga Singh Thebe along with Rs 3,321 and the runner-up will receive a trophy with Rs 1,50,000.
A musical evening has been organized after the competition concluded on Monday. Arjun Bhattarai, president of the organizer Tellok Sporting Club, informed that a cultural evening will be held in the presence of artists including Melina Rai, Pratap Das, Junu Prasain.
The competition, in which eight teams are participating, started on Mangsir 23.
