Nepali runner duo Sunmaya Budha and Rammaya Budha have been honored for their success in participating in the famous international trail running competition held in Chiang Mai, Thailand last week.

The Nepali Embassy in Bangkok organized a program to honor them on Saturday. The Embassy's Deputy Chief of Mission Moti Bahadur Shree honored the runners with food and tokens of love. Sunmaya, a resident of Jumla, secured fourth place in the difficult and prestigious 100-kilometer trail run, and Rammaya secured seventh place in the 50-kilometer trail run. The international trail run competition was organized under the Ultra-Trail du Mont-Blanc series. The competition, which covered the northern mountainous terrain, forests, ups and downs, and difficult geographical structures of Thailand, saw the participation of professional and experienced runners from different countries of the world. In the program, Sunmaya shared her inspiring experience about Jumla's remote geography, poor living conditions, constant struggle, rigorous practice, and journey of self-confidence.

Deputy Chief of Mission Shris mentioned that the international success of Nepali athletes will make a significant contribution to making Nepal known to the world. He expressed his commitment that the embassy will always be with us to encourage such talents in the future as well. He also highlighted the Lumbini-Nepal Mini Marathon to be organized by the embassy.

On the same occasion, PNO Chairman Kumar Karki provided financial assistance of one lakh rupees as an incentive to the runners.

The honoring program was attended by employees of the Nepali Embassy, the Non-Resident Nepali Association, the Thai-Nepali Association, representatives of various organizations and institutions, and Nepalis involved in education, profession, and business.
