Meringden Rural Municipality and Phungling Municipality are set to face off in the final of the ongoing Kanchenjunga Seselung Women's Gold Cup Football Tournament at the Bhanujan Secondary School ground in the district headquarters of Phungling. In the final semi-final on Thursday, Meringden stunned Pathibhara Yangwarak Rural Municipality by 5-0 goals to secure a meeting with Phungling Municipality.
Captain Anushka Sherpa scored a hat-trick for Meringden, while Sushma Limbu and Manita Tamang scored 1-1. Anushka opened the scoring in the 25th minute of the first half.
She took advantage of a corner kick from Simron Rai and scored the goal. Sushma added another goal in the 26th minute, while Manita Tamang scored the third goal in the 57th minute of the second half. Anushka added two more goals in the 65th and 80th minutes. Meringden 1 Anushka, who is from Khamlung, is a player of Nepal Police Club. Meringden has scored the highest score in the tournament so far.
Manita Tamang was named Man of the Match on Thursday. She received 5,000. The final match will be held on Saturday, the 20th. Phungling has already reached the final by defeating Maiwakhola and Aathrai Triveni Rural Municipality.
The winner of the competition, organized on the occasion of Chasok Tangnam (Nwagi Puja), a festival of the Limbu community, will receive 202,000 rupees along with a trophy, and the runner-up will receive 102,000 rupees. Kanchenjunga Phungling Club and Yangwarak Sangjambo Phungling have organized the municipal level competition. Eight out of nine municipalities are participating in the competition.
