Udayapur's Gaighat United has entered the semi-finals of the first Gachhiya Gold Cup International Invitational Football Tournament. Gaighat United secured a place in the semi-finals by defeating Jhalthal Football Club of Jhapa by a 4-1 goal margin in a penalty shootout in the third quarter-final match held at the Gachhiya Bazaar Sports Ground in Sundarharaicha, Morang, on Wednesday.

After both teams tied 1-1 in the regular time, the match was decided directly through a penalty shootout. In the penalty shootout, Vivek Rai, Viku Rai, Binod Rai and Ajit Chaudhary scored goals for Gaighat. Only Ayush Tamang's shot was converted into a goal for Jalthal. Sanam Rai and Ayush Rai's shots were wasted.

Earlier, Jalthal had taken the lead in the 27th minute of regular time through a goal by Nish Kumar Shrestha. But less than a minute later, Gaighat's Binod Rai equalized the score.

Gaighat United's goalkeeper Rembo Chaudhary was declared the player of the match and won Rs 5,100 in cash. According to the organizers, the final quarterfinal match of the tournament organized by Gachhiya Youth Society will be played between Itahari's Rashtriya Jagriti Club and Damak Football Academy.
