Siraha's Sahales Club has made a winning start to the first international invitational Gachhiya Gold Cup football tournament. In the opening match held on Monday at the Gachhiya Bazaar ground in Sundarharaincha, Morang, Sahales defeated Belbari Football Club Morang by a margin of 1-0 to secure a place in the semi-finals.

Roman Bhujel scored the goal to give Sahales the victory. Bhujel's goal in the 55th minute of the game was decisive for Sahales, who had foreign players like Devendra Tamang, Shishir Lekhi and Aboyami Fakunle on the field. Bhujel, who scored the decisive goal to help Sahales secure their passage to the next round, was declared the 'Man of the Match' and won Rs 5,100 in cash.

In the second quarterfinal match to be held on Monday, the host Gachhiya Youth Society will face the visiting team Legend Football Club of West Bengal, India. The Gold Cup, which began with the slogan 'Drugs kill lives, Gachhiya Youth Society's call, focus on sports to stay healthy', will continue until Mangsir 22.

Eight teams, including an Indian, have participated in the Gold Cup, where the winner will receive a cash prize of Rs 201,000 and the runner-up will receive Rs 101,000. The organizer has stated that the best player in the competition will be awarded Rs 25,000 in cash and the best player in the category will be awarded Rs 11,000 each.
