Nepal has reached the final of the ACC U-19 Premier Cup cricket. Opening bowlers Nitesh Kumar Patel and Chandan Ram put in a brilliant bowling performance as Nepal defeated Malaysia by nine wickets in the semi-final of the tournament being held in the UAE on Saturday.
Malaysia, who were invited to bat after Nepal won the toss, were bowled out for 51 runs in just 17.2 overs at the Seven District Ground 2 in Ajman. Nitesh took 24 in 8 overs with 2 maidens and Chandan took 17 runs with 1 maiden in 5 overs. Undefeated Poudel captain Ashok Dhami and Roshan Bishwakarma took 1 wicket each.
Apart from Mohammad Fathul Muin, who batted at number nine, scoring 11 and Hamzah Pangi scoring 13 runs, no other Malaysian batsmen could score double figures. Malaysia had already lost 7 wickets after scoring 13 runs in the eighth over, and these two extended the innings a bit.
Even though Neeraj Kumar Yadav was out for 4 runs, Nepal scored 55 runs within 8 overs. Vansh Chhetri remained unbeaten on 7 off 17 balls and Nischal Chhetri on 10 off 14 balls.
Nepal had defeated Saudi Arabia and Hong Kong to reach the semi-finals as group winners. Nepal will play the final against the winner of the other semi-final between UAE and Oman, which is being played on Saturday.
