Maiwakhola Rural Municipality has made a winning start to the Kanchenjunga Seselung Gold Cup women's football tournament that began in Phungling, the headquarters of Taplejung, on the occasion of Chasok Tangnam.

In the opening match held on Saturday at Bhanujan Secondary School, Maiwakhola won 2-0 against Sirijanga Rural Municipality. In the 71st minute of the second half, Nanuma Limbu scored a goal that was dropped from near the crossbar and hit the post. She also became the first player to score a goal in this tournament. Birsna Limbu scored the second goal in extra time and took her municipality to the semi-finals. Birsna was also the man of the match of Saturday's tournament and received a cash prize of Rs. 5,000.

The second match of the tournament, in which eight out of the nine municipalities of Taplejung are participating, will be held on Sunday between Pathibharayangbarak and Aathraitriveni Rural Municipality. Eight out of the nine municipalities of the district are participating in the tournament organized on the occasion of Chasok Tangnam. The winner of the tournament, which will be held on the 20th, will receive Rs. 202,000 and the runner-up will receive Rs. 102,000.

Maiwakhola Rural Municipality Chairman Vijay Vanem and Sirijanga Rural Municipality Vice-Chairman Chitra Mabo had reached the field to boost the morale of their municipality in the match inaugurated by District Coordination Committee Chief Tshiring Lama. In the competition, which allows the inclusion of four outside players, the municipalities have selected the best players within the municipality and fielded them. Those playing in their municipality's departmental or other clubs have been included in the competition. From the semi-finals onwards, the municipalities are preparing to include outside players after looking at the competition.
