Various local levels in the district have taken up the construction, expansion and upgrading of playgrounds, prioritizing the construction of sports infrastructure. The work of playgrounds has been progressing rapidly in various phases in Ganyapadhura, Alital, Amargadhi, Ajaymeru, Parashuram, Navadurga and Bhageshwor rural municipalities.
Although there are many plans to build a playground in Amargadhi Municipality, the district headquarters, some projects are incomplete. Although the Intensive Urban Development Office Doti has allocated budget for the construction of the Ugratara Playground in Ward No. 5 of the municipality, the work has not started, said Tanka Prasad Pant, an officer of the municipality. The three crore rupees allocated by the federal government for the Bhaliya Playground is also unused.
Since the Bhaliya Playground was built last year with a grant of three million rupees by the provincial government, this year's budget for the Bhaliya Playground is being considered for the upgrading of Tundikhel, Pant said. He informed that a letter has been sent to the army for the coordination process as Tundikhel is owned by the Nepali Army. There has been a problem in conducting district-level sports activities due to the lack of sufficient playgrounds in the district headquarters itself.
Construction work on the 'Katalpokhari Playground' is progressing in Ward No. 4 of Parshuram Municipality. The provincial government has allocated more than Rs 10 million for this ground, which is expected to facilitate training and competition for local youth, said Mahesh Raj Bhatta, sub-engineer of the municipality. Apart from this, various sports programs have been conducted for years in the old Parshuram Rangmaidan in the municipality and the adjacent covered hall.
Ganyapadhura Rural Municipality has reached the final stage of construction of a municipal-level playground in Ward No. 2. The ground, estimated to cost about Rs 10 million, is being made suitable for cricket, football and athletics. According to the spokesperson of the rural municipality, Chakra Bahadur Deuba, preparations are being made to organize the President's Running Shield competition at the ground from this year. Although the federal government has allocated Rs 30 million for the 'Jewala Playground' in Ward No. 4, the work has not started.
Sunkhola Playground has been constructed and is operational in Ward No. 8 of Alital Rural Municipality. The ground, built at a cost of about Rs 9 million, is being used for school-level competitions, municipal-level programs, and football, volleyball, and cricket games, said Tek Bahadur Rana, engineer of the rural municipality.
Ajaymeru rural municipality has already built a large playground in the Chanbetal area of Ajaymeru-3 in the past. According to Chief Administrative Officer Jitendra Prasad Ojha, another ground is being built in the Pali area of Ward No. 1 at a cost of Rs 20-25 million. The playground in Chamada of Ward No. 2 has been completed and municipal-level activities are being conducted.
Pushparaj Joshi, deputy subba of the rural municipality, said that at least one playground is in operation in all five wards of Navadurga rural municipality. He said that a municipal-level playground was built in Koteli, Ward No. 1, with a supplementary grant of Rs 10 million from the federal government, and now only the construction of the parapet is left. He said that various district-level games have been held in the playground in Koteli.
Playgrounds have also been constructed in two places in Bhageshwor Rural Municipality. According to Prem Singh Ghota, the head of the rural municipality's planning department, a playground has been constructed in Bogta of Ward No. 3 at a cost of Rs. 1.3 million. In the budget of the provincial government in 2077/78, a playground has also been constructed and is in operation in Ward No. 4, Shrikot.
