To promote sports tourism in Nepal, the Nepal Tourism Board and the Cricket Association of Nepal have signed an agreement to support the Nepal Premier League Season-2 (NPL-2). Through this partnership, the aim is to establish NPL-2 as a major platform for cricket and sports tourism in Nepal.
As per the agreement, the board will play an active role in branding, promoting and increasing the international reach of NPL-2. Established as a credible international franchise cricket league in a short time, NPL-2 will serve as an important medium to attract cricket lovers, foreign players, commentators and tourists interested in sports in Nepal.
Board officials said that they plan to make Nepal a major sports destination that can host international level events through cricket.
Since the live broadcast of NPL-2 will be broadcasted by Star Sports, the board is confident that Nepal's cricket and sports tourism will be promoted to millions of viewers around the world. Similarly, Kantipur Max is also broadcasting the NPL live within Nepal.
Board Chief Executive Officer Deepak Raj Joshi said, "NPL-2 is a great opportunity for Nepal to establish itself on the world stage. It will effectively present Nepal's geographical and natural diversity to the international audience." He also mentioned that Nepal is becoming an attractive destination for international sports competitions.
CAN General Secretary Paras also expressed his happiness over the collaboration and said, “We are excited to join hands with the Nepal Tourism Board to promote both sports and tourism together. The rise of cricket in recent years has played a significant role in promoting the country globally, and NPL-2 will take it to even greater heights.”
With international players, world-class commentators and high-quality broadcasts, NPL-2 is expected to showcase Nepal’s ability to host world-class sporting events. According to Surya Thapaliya, Senior Manager of the Board, the league will help expand tourism opportunities in Nepal through franchise sports, add diversity and establish Nepal as an attractive ‘sports tourism destination’.
With the success of NPL-2, Nepal aims to strengthen its identity as an emerging sports tourism hub in South Asia by presenting not only its cricketing prowess, but also captivating destinations, adventurous experiences and cultural richness to the world.
