England's World Cup-winning batsman Jason Roy will play for Pokhara Avengers in the Nepal Premier League (NPL). Pokhara announced Roy's signing on social media on Saturday.
The 35-year-old opening batsman Roy has scored 6,000 runs for England in 5 Tests, 116 ODIs and 64 Twenty20 Internationals. He has not played for England since playing an ODI against Bangladesh in Chittagong in March 2023.
He was a key player in England's 2019 World Cup win at home. In the semi-final against Australia, he scored 85 runs with 9 fours and 5 sixes in 65 balls. In the final against New Zealand, he could only score 17 runs. New Zealand's Jimmy Neesham, who played in the same final, was signed by Pokhara the previous day.
Along with Roy and Neesham, West Indies' Ramon Reifer, England's Adam Rossington and Dan Douthwaite will play for Pokhara, where Kusal Bhurtel is the marquee player. Roy has scored more than 10,500 runs in 412 matches in all formats of Twenty20. His strike rate is around 140.
