This season's NPL is starting from November 1. But with 5 days left for the competition, the work of installing floodlights is not yet complete.
What you should know
The Cricket Association of Nepal (CAN) has announced the schedule of the second edition of the Nepal Premier League (NPL) on Sunday, with 23 out of a total of 32 matches to be played under floodlights.
This season's NPL is starting from Mangsir 1. But with 5 days left for the competition, the work of installing floodlights is not yet complete. According to Saurabh Shah, a representative of Bishan-Ishwari Joint Venture of Lalitpur, who has taken charge of installing floodlights, the work of installing lights on three poles and testing all the poles is still to be done. Floodlights are being installed on the six poles placed on the field.
'70 lights should be installed on one pole. A total of 420 lights are installed on all the poles,' Shah said, 'The work of installing lights on three poles has been completed. The work of connecting 140 lights is still to be done.' Of these, the work of installing lights on one pole has not started till Tuesday. Only 20 lights have been connected to one pole, while the work of connecting 20 lights to the remaining one pole is still to be done.
'Workers have been deployed at the rate of 4 per pole since Tuesday,' Shah said, 'We have also hired workers from India. Work is being done on all the poles. The plan is to complete all the work by Thursday evening if not Friday.’ According to him, after completing the work of installing the lights, another important task remains to be done, namely aiming (adjusting the focus of the lights). Now, along with the installation of the lights, the work of installing panels, earthing and cables is also left.
Since the Nepal Electricity Authority does not have a power line as per its capacity, the company has also made preparations to use generators to light the floodlights at NPL this time. According to Shah, separate generators are being installed on each pole. Out of the 70 lights on a pole, one light is 1600 watts.
The company says that the work has slowed down due to the delay in the arrival of lighting materials from Europe. He claims that since the work of installing floodlights in the cricket stadium is the first, the design has changed, and the first proposed floodlight did not get approval due to the rain, so the new process has been delayed.
However, the work of constructing the parapet in the stadium has been completed. Kathmandu's BKOI-KCDC-BG JV Stadium reconstruction is underway after completing the work as per the agreement. According to BG JV Project Director Bharat Giri, the construction of a 10,000-seat RCC parapet has been completed. Accordingly, 3,000 seats have been installed on the east side and 7,000 seats on the west side. The company had done the gravel work by building a track for placing chairs, a compound for placing steel railings, a generator, and a road in the compound area. According to the agreement, the company will have to look into any problems with the chairs for five years.
If both these companies had worked as per the agreement, all the work should have been completed by Baisakh 24. As per the agreement, the then government had also imposed a fine of around Rs 200,000 per day on the construction company for not completing the work on time. According to the CAN schedule, the match schedule has been published so that one match ends in the evening every day. The floodlights will be turned on after the second match starts at 3.30 pm and 4 pm every day. All NPL matches will be held in this stadium.
If the construction is completed on time, franchise cricket will be played under floodlights for the first time in Nepal. Janakpur Bolts and Kathmandu Gorkhas will compete in the first match of the NPL. The match will be held in the evening. The top four teams will advance to the playoffs after the 8 franchise teams participating in the competition compete against each other. Qualifier 1 will be held on Mangsir 23, Eliminator on Mangsir 24 and Qualifier 2 on Mangsir 25. The final will be held on Mangsir 27.
CAN has already organized many national and international cricket tournaments on this ground on lease from Tribhuvan University. But this is the first time the tournament is being organized after the reconstruction.
