Nepali cricket's successful batsman Sharad Veshavkar has announced his retirement from international cricket. Sharad had earlier announced his retirement from the Hong Kong Cricket Sixes held in Hong Kong on Sunday.

Nepal ended the tournament by playing against the UAE on Sunday. But Sharad did not play that match. He had gone to Hong Kong as captain. Sharad had only played the match against Sri Lanka. In Sharad's absence, Sandeep Jora captained Nepal in the other four matches.

Sharad retired from international cricket by posting the jersey he wore in the Hong Kong Sixes on social media and thanking everyone who supported him on this journey. Recently, Sharad has been working as a television commentator.

Sharad started his playing career in the U-15 Asia Cup held in the UAE in 2002. He is a member of the first first-class recognized three-day match, the first One-Day International and the first Twenty20 International team played by Nepal.

He made his 'debut' for the Nepali national team in 2004 in his birthplace, the UAE. Sharad made a brilliant debut by scoring an unbeaten half-century in the second innings of the first-class Intercontinental Cup tri-nation tournament against the UAE in Sharjah. Sharad is a key player in Nepal's journey from the World Cricket League Division 5 to the One Day International.

The ICC Twenty20 World Cup Global Qualifier held in the UAE in 2013 was Sharad's best tournament, where he played the role of an excellent finisher and led Nepal to the Twenty20 World Cup for the first time. Nepal reached the World Cup after he scored the winning run in the match against Hong Kong. The match played against Hong Kong in the World Cup was Nepal's first Twenty20 International. Sharad was a key player in this team.

Similarly, the match played against the Netherlands in Amsterdam in 2018 was Nepal's first One Day International. Sharad is also a member of this Nepali team. But Sharad last played an ODI in 2021 and a T20I in 2022.

Last season, 37-year-old Sharad played Nepal Premier League (NPL) cricket for Chitwan Rhinos. He was unbeaten in all four matches he played. But no one bid for him in this mini auction.
