Former India all-rounder Robin Singh has been appointed as the mentor of Nepal Premier League (NPL) franchise Lumbini Lions. The Lions announced Singh's signing on social media on Thursday.
Singh played 1 Test and 136 ODIs for India. He then coached the national teams of Hong Kong, UAE and the US. He was associated with Mumbai Indians for a long time in Indian Premier League (IPL) cricket, where he won 5 IPL titles and once the Champions League title.
He was the coach of Deccan Chargers in the first IPL in 2008. In 2009, he became India's fielding coach and Mumbai Indians' batting coach. The following year, he became the head coach of Mumbai Indians. In his first year as a coach, Mumbai reached the final of the IPL for the first time. While he was in the coaching staff, Mumbai won the IPL title in 2013, 2015, 2017, 2019 and 2020.
The 62-year-old Singh is currently the coach of MI Emirates in the UAE's IL T-20. MI won the IL T-20 title in 2024 under his coaching. The upcoming season of IL T-20 will start from December 2. So, there is a possibility that he will leave Lumbini and go to Dubai at the end of the group stage of NPL.
Lumbini was at the bottom of the NPL in the first season under the coaching of former consultant coach of the Nepali team Nandan Phadanis. Lumbini, which has given Singh the responsibility of mentoring, is also yet to appoint a head coach.
