Saipal Academy made a winning start to the Samriddhi Open Women's Basketball Tournament on Wednesday.
Saipal defeated Xavier College by a score of 80-18 at the Rakhep Covered Hall in Tripureshwor. Saipal, who took the lead in all four quarters, performed 18-10, 24-4, 19-4 and 19-0 respectively. Saipal's Diva Maharjan added 33 points.
In the next match, Grande Stars defeated Training Ground by 42-39. Grande scored 6-15 in the first quarter, 16-11 in the second, 10-6 in the third and 10-7 in the fourth. Grande's Rinchen Moktan scored 10 points.
In the U-16 tournament organized by Angels Heart National School with the technical support of the Nepal Basketball Association, Swarnim defeated Boudha School by 22-4. Swarnim's Hisi Lhamu scored 10 points.
The tournament was inaugurated by Nepal Basketball Association President Bhim Singh Gurung. There are 4 teams each participating in the Open and U-16.
