Departmental team APF Football Club Kathmandu put in an excellent performance on Tuesday, defeating visiting team Sikkim's Single Sporting Club by a wide margin of 7-0 goals in the ongoing Jhapa Women's Gold Cup at the Dudhe Stadium in Shivasatakshi, Jhapa. With this, APF has easily made it to the semi-finals.
APF, which had control of the ball from the start, took the lead in the 29th minute through a goal by Savita Rana Magar. Then in the 38th minute, Anita Basnet added a second goal by finishing off a missed header by Saru Limbu.
APF scored 2 more goals in the injury time of the first half. Rashmikumari Ghising and then Basnet scored their second individual goal in the injury time to make the score 5-0.
APF's attack did not stop in the second half either. Anita KC scored a goal in the 71st minute on a cross from Savita Rana, while Ghising completed the hat-trick by scoring a goal in the 84th minute on a pass from Anita KC.
Sikkim's Sukriya Magar created a goal opportunity in the 21st minute, but APF goalkeeper Anjana Rana easily controlled it. Sukriya also missed a one-versus-one opportunity in the 80th minute.
APF coach Jibesh Pandey said that the team played according to plan. 'The players played balanced and planned football from start to finish,' said coach Pandey.
Sikkim coach Laku Furbi Bhutia said that they took the defeat as a learning opportunity. 'Our team is young, we will improve in the next game,' responded coach Bhutia.
Ghising was declared the player of the match for her outstanding performance. She received a cash prize of Rs 15,000 and a trophy.
Sankata Football Club Kathmandu and Jhapa FC will compete in the third quarterfinal on Wednesday.
