The departmental team Nepal Police Club has registered a spectacular victory in the inaugural match of the first Jhapa Women's Gold Cup Football Tournament that began on Monday in Shivasatakshi, Jhapa.
Police entered the semi-finals by defeating their well-known rivals Church Boys United by a wide margin of 8-0.
Mina Deuba became the 'star of the match' by scoring five goals for Police, while Rekha Poudel made a significant contribution to the team's victory by completing a hat-trick. Police, which had complete control of the game in the first half, opened its account in the 37th minute through a goal by Rekha Poudel. In the second half, Mina Deuba continued to perform well and scored goals in the 51st, 60th, 62nd, 68th and 81st minutes. Similarly, Rekha also completed her hat-trick by scoring goals in the 37th, 80th and in injury time.
The coordination between the midfield and defense was excellent in Police's game. Some of Church Boys' attempts were thwarted by Police goalkeeper Usha Nath.
Mina Deuba was declared the 'player of the match' for her excellent performance. She received a cash prize of Rs 15,000 and a trophy. The award was presented by the chief guest, Shivasatakshi Mayor Megahang Thopra, organizing committee chairman Santosh Thopra and Garage Cafe owner Luka Rai.
The second quarterfinal match will be played between APF Football Club and Singling Sporting Club (Sikkim, India) on Tuesday. The final match of the tournament will be held at Dudhe Stadium on Kartik 24.
The winning team of the tournament will receive a cash prize of Rs 10,10,000 and the runner-up will receive Rs 500,000. The best player will be awarded Rs 150,000, while the best goalkeeper, defender, midfielder, forward, emerging player, coach and top scorer will be awarded Rs 25,000.
The ‘Player of the Match’ of each match will also be given Rs 15,000 and a trophy. Tribhuvan Army FC, APF FC, Nepal Police Club, Sankata Football Club, Church Boys United, Jhapa Football Club, RS Pokhara Football Club and Singles Sporting Club of India are participating in the competition.
