America's 'clean sweep'

The United States has completed a clean sweep of the ongoing World Cup Cricket League 2 series in the UAE. The United States has further strengthened its position at the top of League 2 by winning all 4 matches in the series involving Nepal and the UAE.

The US defeated the UAE by 243 runs on Monday. This is the biggest margin of victory for the US in an ODI. The previous big win for the US in an ODI was a 169-run win over Canada.

The US, coached by former Nepal coach Pubudu Dassanayake, defeated Nepal by 106 runs and 4 wickets respectively in League 2 held in Dubai. Similarly, the US defeated the UAE by 4 wickets in the previous match.

After losing the toss, the US elected to bat after scoring 28 runs for the loss of 3 wickets at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium, when Saiteja Mukamalla and Milind Kumar shared a record unbeaten 264-run partnership for the fourth wicket. This is the biggest partnership for any wicket in an ODI for the US.

Player of the Match Mukamalla scored an unbeaten 137 runs off 149 balls. He hit 10 fours and 3 sixes. Milind, who had scored half-centuries in all three matches, scored 123 runs off 125 balls, including 11 fours and 1 six. With the efforts of Mukamalla and Milind, the US scored 292 runs for the loss of 3 wickets.

In reply, UAE had already lost 8 wickets by the time they scored 28 runs and the team was on the verge of the lowest negative score in ODIs. Nepal had bowled out the US for 35 runs at Kirtipur in 2020 and Sri Lanka had bowled out Zimbabwe for 35 runs at Harare in 2002, which was the previous record for the lowest score.

However, it was Junaid Siddiqui, batting at number 10, who scored 10 runs as UAE recovered from their lowest score. The team was eventually bowled out for 49 runs in 22.1 overs. Apart from Siddiqui's 10 runs, no other player from UAE could score double figures. Rushi Ugarkar of America took 5 wickets for 22 runs in 8.1 overs. Saurabh Netrabhalkar took 3 wickets and Shubham Ranjan and Milind took 1 wicket each.

America is at the top with 36 points from 24 matches and the team is 6 points ahead of second-placed Scotland. In the 8-nation competition League 2, Nepal is seventh with 12 points from 19 matches and UAE is eighth with 8 points. Nepal and UAE will face each other in the final match of the series on Wednesday.
